Tapped Resources

Posted by Jª

There has been speculations about which is better between the two options. in-housing or outsourcing? Well this depends on the scenario where the two will be used. Both have their advantages as well as their respective flaws, depending on the environment where the option is utilized. In order to fully grasp the effectiveness of the two options, one must know the best for the organization or company where it will be implemented. Without proper knowledge between the two, it can become a liability rather than an asset. As for the in-housing, it is best used if there are skillful personnel in the company that can be able to create a system for the company. With this, the system needed by the company will be made for just the way the company wants and for its best interests. Outsourcing can be good if there are limited resources in the company. There are still numerous reasons why a certain organization will be using one of the two options, in which in most cases, it will be for the company's best interest.

In accordance to this, we have to speculate on why the University tapped on the in-house resources. For quite some time, the questions about the in-housing of the University's enrollment system had been popping since last school year, where it was at that time that the project was started. Before we had the in-house program, we were using the option of having to outsource. But then again, it seems like the University have decided to take a chance on having an in-house rather going for outsource. It seems like a bold step then. But before all that, to tell you frankly, I have a limited knowledge about the in-house project of the University, as most of us are in here. Still, with the added knowledge given by our facilitator and some keen observations, I will be deducing why the the school, the University, decided to use the option of in-housing.

Before then, before the in-house, we are using the outsourcing project in our school. I did not found major flaws in using the outsourced enrollment system of the school, or maybe it was just apathy that did it. However, as what I have stated earlier, there were no major flaws that I found, but there are still flaws, however. There were this some troublesome events that can slow down the enrollment process every start of a semester. But this petty troubles can be overlooked by the students. In a larger scale, some problems in the system just cannot be tolerated. Not to mention the cost of the system. The old system was being paid monthly. This can be an expensive deal, especially for our school. Instead of having to use the large amount of money for paying the outsourcing company, the money can be utilized on a much useful endeavors. The old system, no matter how costly it is and its error, delivered the needed service for the University.

Now to the newly implemented system for the school, the in-house project of the University. During the last semester, we had this two notable teachers for our two subjects, the SE I ( Software Engineering ) and the SAD I(Systems Analysis and Design I). They were one of the best teachers that our college has to offer. And they were really good in their area of expertise. We had a few meetings with the two professors, but that was it. It came to an abrupt end. After having missed meetings with the subjects, we were informed that they will not be continuing to teach us since they have a more pressing at hand. That was then we knew that the school was planning to have an in-house system rather than using the old system that was being outsourced. The schedule was affected, and for some sessions, there were no classes for there were no teachers to supervise us. Having taken the two teachers for developing an in-house project, the school has to hire some temporary teacher for the SE I and for the SAD I subjects, we had the facilitator of this subject. Not that we are complaining, but this came as a surprise to most of us. But after a while, we were able to adjust, all of us, including the facilitators of the subjects. With that being said, the in-house project continued.

The system took a whole semester long to finish. It was finished around the last semester. The system had its dry run last semester and maybe some adjustments were made during that time then. Trainings were done for the users of the system. At the end of the last semester, the system was ready to be implemented. At the start of the school year, the system was finally implemented. Personally, the new system has to have a really good time to get used to. The process in retrieving the COR was quick and without any hassle, but when it comes to the time to pay for the matriculation, it was really troublesome. maybe we are just adjusting but it was a surprise, especially the line for the registrars office. It was, indeed, a long line!! But with that aside, there are notable improvements and it was, without a doubt, better than the old outsourced system.

It seems like the University adopted tapped the in-house resources for numerous reasons, I believe. First thing would be the cost. I don't know how much the in-house project costs but I do believe that it was cheaper than the old system, which is being outsourced. In addition to that, we have the people capable of creating a better system. We cannot deny the fact that the people involved in the project was indeed talented. It was a bold move, but it was a good choice, nonetheless. It may have some problems, but it was better than the last system, I think.

i agree with you ja... it does not mean nga nawad.an mo ug duha ka great profs will affect how you look at the new system... that's another issue and should not be considered a great deal on the new system... everyone should look on the bigger picture of the system, the benefits..advantages... though there is no guarantee that there would be no flaws anymore in the new system, naa man jud na... but at least, there are some improvements ingon pa nmo..=) basta overall, okay ang inhousing uie..=)
